Volition Pinball League ("we," "us") runs the pinball league and tournaments at Volition Brewing in North Bend, Washington. This policy explains what information this website collects, what we do with it, and what we don't do. We've tried to keep it in plain English.

The short version

  • We collect website usage analytics so we can see how the site is used — which pages get visited, roughly where visitors are located, and how they found us. Signed-out activity uses a temporary session identifier; signed-in activity may be associated with the user's account.
  • We do not persist raw IP addresses in our database, we do not use tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers. The application processes an IP address briefly for abuse prevention and approximate location, as described below.
  • If you register for the league, create an account, or contact us, we collect the information you choose to give us (like your name and email) so we can run the league.
  • That's basically it.

Information we collect

1. Website usage analytics

When you visit the site, we automatically record some information to understand how the site is performing:

  • Pages you view and when (timestamp and path)
  • The type of event (e.g. page view, session start)
  • Your device type and screen size category (e.g. mobile or desktop)
  • Your browser and operating system
  • How you arrived at the site (the referring website's hostname or source, and any campaign tags in the link you clicked)
  • Your approximate location — city, region, and country only — determined from your network connection
  • Whether the activity occurred while signed in; signed-in events may be stored with your account user ID

For signed-out visitors, analytics events use a temporary, rolling session identifier stored only for the current browser tab. It is not a persistent visitor identifier and is not used to recognize repeat visits. For signed-in users, analytics events may be associated with the user ID for the account. We use this information to understand things like which pages are popular, which channels bring people to the site, whether visitors are local or from out of the area, and how members use league features.

2. Information you give us

If you choose to interact with us, we collect what you provide:

  • League registration: when you sign up for a season, we collect the information you enter during registration (such as your name, email, and team details) so we can organize the league.
  • Accounts: if you have a login (for example, players, team captains, or league admins), we store your account details so you can sign in and use league features.
  • Contact: if you email us, we keep your message and contact details so we can respond.
  • Substitute player sign-up: if you sign up as a sub, we collect what you enter so we can match you with teams.

What we don't do

  • We don't persist raw IP addresses in our analytics database. The application uses an IP address transiently for a short in-memory rate-limit window and to derive approximate city, region, and country. The raw IP address is not written to the analytics event or session database.
  • We don't use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies, and we don't use a persistent anonymous identifier to follow signed-out visitors between visits or across other websites.
  • We don't sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, and we don't share it with advertisers.
  • We don't run ads or ad-tracking on this site.

Cookies and browser storage

The application does not set tracking, advertising, analytics, or authentication cookies.

We use limited first-party browser storage:

  • Session storage for analytics: a temporary session ID, session timestamp, and campaign attribution are stored in sessionStorage. This data is scoped to the current browser tab and the session ID rolls after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • Local storage for authentication: if you log in, access and refresh tokens are stored in localStorage so the site can keep you signed in. These tokens are used only for authentication and access to account features, not for advertising or cross-site tracking.

How long we keep information

  • Raw analytics events and sessions: we keep individual records for 90 days, after which they're automatically deleted. We may keep anonymous aggregate summaries (like monthly visit totals) longer, since those contain no per-visitor or per-session information.
  • Registration, account, and contact information: we keep this for as long as you're involved with the league, or as needed to run it, and remove it on request (see below).

Services we use

We rely on a few third-party services to run the site. Each has its own privacy practices:

  • Cloudflare — provides security and delivers the website; it also supplies the approximate location information described above.
  • Render — hosts the website's API and server-side services.
  • Match Play Events — runs tournament registration, brackets, and scoring. If you register for a tournament through Match Play, their privacy policy applies to that registration.

We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of those services for details on how they handle data.

Your choices

You can:

  • Ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Withdraw by asking us to remove your registration or account information.
  • Browse without an account — the public site works without signing in, and you don't need to provide your name or contact information to view public pages. Temporary session analytics still apply as described above.

To make any of these requests, email us at pinball@volitionbrewing.com.

Children

Players must be 13 or older to participate in the league. This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above. Meaningful changes will be noted here.
